TURA, Jan 28: Effigies of MPCC president Vincent Pala along with working president Deborah Marak and two Congress candidates were burnt in a protest outisde Congress Bhawan in Tura on Friday night.

The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress members set on fire Pala, Deborah, Gambegre candidate Saleng A Sangma and North Tura candidate Billykid A Sangma after their deadline of 24 hours given to the party leadership to change some of the candidates passed without any action being taken.

They had been demanding that congress party members who applied for party tickets for the February 27 elections should have been chosen instead of leaders from other parties who joined the congress overnight and were rewarded with party tickets.

They have been particularly angry over the decision to reward NCP leader Saleng Sangma in Gambegre and former Trinamool leader Reynold M Sangma in Selsella.

Saleng is the nephew of Billykid A Sangma.

The MPYC leaders also announced that they will be stepping down from the party in protest against the leaders refusal to listen to their demands.
