Nongpoh, March 10: On Friday, a devastating incident took place along the Guwahati – Shillong national highway at Shangbangla in which a six-wheeler truck, bearing registration number AS 11DC 3353, was completely destroyed by fire. The truck was carrying a variety of goods including Amul, Atta, Urea oil, and 10 drums of liquid oil for making roads.
The driver of the truck, Somsul Sul Islam Tapadar, who is a resident of Silchar in Assam, was fortunately not injured in the incident. According to sources, at the time of the incident, the driver was unaware that his vehicle had caught fire. It was only when some other drivers on the highway noticed the flames that they alerted him to the situation. The driver and his helper quickly evacuated the truck to avoid any potential harm.
The cause of the fire was reportedly a short circuit in the engine. The fire quickly spread throughout the vehicle and resulted in the complete destruction of the truck. The incident caused a traffic jam on the highway for some time, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Although no one was injured, the incident caused a significant financial loss to the owner of the truck and the goods that were being transported.
