Though police haven’t officially made any comments on the incident yet, situation have turned a little heated in the past few days as the result for the Assam Assembly elections draws to an end on Sunday.

The shooting incident comes days after shots were fired at the youth wing office of the United People’s Party Limited (UPPL) — the ruling party in the Bodoland Territorial Council and an ally to the ruling BJP — at Halangbazar in Patgaon of Kokrajhar district.

The four districts of BTR — Udalguri, Kokrajhar, Chirang and Baksa — consists 16 of the 126 constituencies of Assam and plays a major role in the political shift of powers as the government had always been formed in alliance with the winning party in the Bodoland Territorial Council.

This time, the Bodoland People’s Front, that had been in power since the formation of the council till the dissolve of last term, has forged an alliance with the Congress led Mahajath of 10 parties.
