Ampati, Jan 6: In a major recovery, police on Tuesday unearthed a large cache of ammunition from a bamboo grove in South West Garo Hills district, Meghalaya.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint team from Salmanpara and Ampati police stations conducted a search operation near Santogre village under Salmanpara police station limits. During the operation, police recovered 55 suspected live anti-aircraft ammunition, which had been buried in the bamboo grove.
Officials said the ammunition was seized on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses, following due legal procedures.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the source of the ammunition. Further details are awaited.
