Tura, July 10: The 41 Meghalaya Battalion NCC, Tura, under the NCC Group Headquarters Shillong, has successfully concluded a nine-day Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-58) held at the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Tura.

The camp, which began on July 2 and concluded on Thursday, witnessed the participation of 674 NCC cadets from 20 schools and seven colleges across the Garo Hills region and Shillong. Under the command of Colonel D.T. Anthony, the training focused on a well-rounded curriculum that included physical fitness, yoga, drill, field and battle craft, map reading, communication and live firing. Personality development, leadership training and disaster preparedness sessions were also part of the programme, with support from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

Cadets were also exposed to guest lectures and motivational talks aimed at helping them develop discipline, confidence, and a strong sense of civic responsibility. The camp was designed to offer a glimpse into a regimented lifestyle and to prepare cadets for future careers, whether in the armed forces or other public and private sectors.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Brigadier Thongam J.S., SC, Group Commander of NCC Group HQ Shillong, encouraged cadets to pursue excellence in both academics and extracurricular activities. He highlighted the role of NCC in shaping responsible citizens and clarified that the organisation not only prepares young people for defense services but also opens up broader career opportunities.

He further added that NCC plays a crucial role in steering youth away from harmful influences and towards meaningful, goal-oriented lives.

A cultural evening marked the end of the camp, where cadets showcased their talents and received awards for their performance and discipline. Basic military training was also imparted to prepare selected cadets for the upcoming Inter-Group Flag Area Competition to be held in Dibrugarh from July 12 to 21.

The final dispersal of cadets from CATC-58 is scheduled for July 11. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the next Combined Annual Training Camp, CATC-65, which will be held from July 13 to 22 at ISBT, Tura, with around 500 to 600 cadets expected to attend.
