Shillong, July 10: In a bid to enhance transparency and efficiency in the recruitment process, the State Cabinet has approved the discontinuation of interviews for Group-D posts across the state.
Group D posts typically involve tasks such as cleaning, gardening, watchman duties, or other similar support roles within government departments.

Announcing this major decision after the meeting, Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh said this decision aligns with the government’s policy of ensuring maximum transparency in the recruitment process and complies with instructions from the Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
“In line with this decision, all appointments for Group-D posts will be done without recourse to the process of interview. This will take effect from October 1, 2025 meaning it will have a prospective effect,” he told reporters.
“It also means that all such interviews that are scheduled from October 1, this year will be minus the need for the candidates to sit for a personal interview,” Lyngdoh added.
According to him, the decision will also help to speed up the process of appointments to various posts and ensure transparency and efficiency of the system.
