Guwahati, June 14: A cyber crime investigation has been launched after digitally manipulated and allegedly obscene images purportedly depicting female students and teachers of St Francis De Sales (SFS) School, Guwahati, surfaced on social media and messaging platforms.
The incident has triggered concern among parents, educators and law enforcement agencies, with investigators probing the origin, creation and circulation of the content as well as the possible misuse of artificial intelligence tools to generate the images.
Sources said the material was circulated through various online platforms, prompting the school administration to initiate an internal inquiry and alert the relevant authorities.
Police are examining the digital trail behind the images and attempting to identify those involved in creating, sharing or distributing the content. The investigation is expected to focus on offences relating to privacy violations, cyber harassment, obscenity and the protection of minors.
The case has renewed concerns over the growing misuse of AI-powered image manipulation technology, which can create highly realistic but fabricated content capable of causing significant emotional distress and reputational damage.
Officials have urged members of the public not to share the images or engage in speculation while the investigation remains underway.
Authorities have indicated that stringent action will be taken against anyone found responsible for creating or circulating the content.
