Guwahati, Nov 25: Raijor Dal president and MLA Akhil Gogoi staged a protest inside the Assam Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the death of celebrated singer Zubeen Garg.
Addressing the media outside the House, Gogoi claimed that there had been “no credible progress” in the probe since Garg’s death.
“It has been two months and four days since the death — the murder — of Zubeen Garg. We still have no clarity on what happened,” he said, adding that Garg was “the most influential cultural voice of this generation,” comparable to Bhupen Hazarika.

Gogoi alleged that the circumstances surrounding the incident were not adequately investigated, particularly events outside India that preceded the singer’s demise.
“When a foreign national died in Singapore, the authorities acted immediately. But in Zubeen’s case, no such investigation has been carried out,” he said.
Claiming that Assam Police lacks the jurisdiction and capability to probe elements involving multiple countries, Gogoi insisted on a central agency taking over the case.
The MLA also sought the resignation of the state Home Minister, alleging procedural lapses.
“Under Section 112 of the BNSS, a Letter of Request must be issued by a court when evidence lies abroad. Even after so many days, this has not been done,” he stated.
Gogoi said Raijor Dal would continue to pursue the demand throughout the Winter Session.
“ We will keep demanding justice for Zubeen Garg,” he said, adding that the party has moved an adjournment motion to discuss the matter in the Assembly.
He cautioned that the Opposition would intensify its agitation if the government failed to respond.
“If the House does not take this issue up, we will not sit quietly,” he warned.
