Shillong, Aug 27: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has endorsed with the decision of the ADCs to continue with the age-old customary laws and practices in matters of governance and administration of the tribal people of the state of Meghalaya and requested for the exemption from establishment of village councils and municipal councils.

In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday to give party’s suggestions to the Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) on the One Hundred Twenty Five (Amendment) Bill, 2019, UDP President Metbah Lyngdoh said the party backs KHADC’s demand for expansion of seats from 30 to 37 and replacing the word President in place of Governor in paragraph 12A subsection (b) of the Indian constitution.
Further, he stated they are hopeful that the stand of the State government will commensurate with that of the ADCs and will yield positive results as per the expectations of the people of the state.
