Guwahati, Aug 27: Atleast five people were killed by suspected militants in remote Dima Hasao district of Assam on Thursday night.
Suspected militants had fired several rounds on about a dozen trucks and set ablaze atleast seven of them near Dismao village on Umrangso Lanka road in Dima Hasao.
Assam Police on Friday confirmed recovery of atleast five dead bodies of truckers. It has launched a massive search and combing operation in the area with the help of Assam Rifles to nab the militants behind the attack.
The place where the incident took place is over 200 kms from Guwahati.
These trucks were carrying coal and clinkers for operation of a cement plant.
“The information that we got from the ground is that there were five suspected militants who first fired from automatic weapons and then put the trucks ablaze. We suspect the militant orgabisation DNLA to be behind this attack. We have recovered five dead bodies and we are carrying out a search operation with help of Assam rifles and we have already begun our investigation” said Jayant singh, SP, Dima Hasao.
Dima Hasao was once a hotbed of insurgency but has been calm for the past half a decade after several militants came over ground.
