Dibrugarh, May 2: A massive hailstorm on Tuesday evening left behind a huge trail destruction in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh, in which one person was killed.
The massive hailstorm hits Dibrugarh at around 5:30pm.
The deceased was killed after a big tree fallen on him at Moran. The deceased has been identified as one Sukeswar Gogoi, resident of Moran.
Many big trees and electric lines were uprooted in Dibrugarh district due to the heavy hailstorm.
“Hailstorm has become common in Dibrugarh. Within few days, we have witnessed two massive hailstorms in Dibrugarh. Many trees and electric lines were uprooted in some areas of the district causing extensive damage,” said an official.
Meanwhile, power lines have been snapped in Dibrugarh down due to the hailstorm. “West revenue circle, Moran, Tingkong, Dibrugarh east were most affected due to the hailstorm. West revenue circle was mostly affected. Many big trees were uprooted and electric poles were damaged. Our assessment has been going on,” said an official of ASDMA.
He further said, “NDRF, SDRF and APDCL are working to clear the roads. Restoration work has been going on. Process has been initiated for the ex-gratia to be given to the deceased family member.”
