Meghalaya’s Hubert Paliar wins gold at 20th Asian Para Arms Wrestling Championship

Shillong, May 2: Meghalaya arm-wrestler from Nongstoiñ, Hubert Paliar on Tuesday clinched a gold medal in the 70kg (Right Hand) category and Silver in the (Left Hand) category at the 20th Asian Para Arms Wrestling Championship currently underway at Dubai Azman in UAE.

The competition began on April 28 and would conclude on May 3, 2023. In the final, Paliar won against Kazakhstan’s Dmitri Skubaba but lost to the same player in the left category.

Paliar, a person with hearing impairment, was trained as a professional baker and joined a business unit called ‘Home Delights Bakers & Confectioners’.

He was interested in the field of sports since his childhood, particularly football and arm wrestling. He participated for India in the 55 Kg senior category event of World Arm Wrestling Championship in Turkey. He also won the Meghalaya Arm Wrestling Championship held in May 2015. He recently participated in the 40th National Arm Wrestling Championship held at G.H. Raisoni Polytechnic, Sharadha Park, Nagpur, Maharashtra.
