Guwahati, May 24: At least 5 people were crushed to death while three others were injured after a speeding truck hit them in Assam’s Darrang district on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place at Sipajhar College Chowk area while the deceased and injured persons were out on morning walk at Sipajhar area.

The injured persons were rushed to hospital.

According to reports, the accident took place on National Highway 15 (NH 15) after a speeding truck ran over several people on the roadside.

According to police, the people had come out for morning walk when they were run over by the speeding truck. Police informed that the truck, bearing registration numbers AS 11 BC 1555, lost control and ran over the pedestrians.
