Guwahati, March 11: A bride in Assam’s Nalbari district called off her wedding after the groom, identified as Prasenjit Haloi, was found heavily intoxicated and unable to perform the rituals. The incident was captured on video and has since gone viral.

According to reports, the groom was seen sleeping on the floor as the rituals were ongoing and was unable to recite the mantras the Pandit instructed him to. The family of the bride has lodged a complaint at Nalbari police station, demanding compensation for the wedding.

A relative of the girl stated, “When the situation escalated, the girl decided not to sit for the wedding. We tried to request the groom’s side, but 95% were drunk, and their women were provoking. We contacted the Goan Burha and alerted the police.”

The incident has raised concerns about the prevalence of alcohol consumption in weddings and the need for stricter measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
