Guwahati, Jan 9: The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Friday approved a series of key decisions, including the appointment of a team of Special Public Prosecutors in the death case of iconic Assamese singer Zubeen Garg.
The Cabinet approved the appointment of senior advocate Ziaul Kamar as Special Public Prosecutor, with Brojendra Mohan Chaudhuri as Additional Special Public Prosecutor. Advocates Kishor Dutta, Pranjal Dutta and Vikash Jammar have been named as Assistant Special Public Prosecutors to assist the prosecution.
The Cabinet also sanctioned a grant of ₹5 crore to the Zubeen Garg Memorial Trust.
The Cabinet approved the settlement of one bigha of government land at Betkuchi in Dispur in favour of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha for the construction of a multipurpose project. The move is aimed at strengthening permanent infrastructure for literary and cultural activities, and at promoting indigenous languages, culture and the socio-cultural development of the Bodo community.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet placed on record its appreciation of the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving a 34.5-km-long elevated corridor through Kaziranga National Park. The Prime Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the project on January 18.
During his visit, the Prime Minister will also attend a grand cultural event on January 17 at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex, where nearly 10,000 Bagurumba dancers will perform together. He will additionally flag off two train services virtually—one between Dibrugarh and Gomti, and another between Guwahati and Raota.
