Assam CM says Akhil Gogoi is not against BJP, but against Hindu society

Must read

Guwahati, Oct 24: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that the opposition and individuals like Akhil Gogoi are not against the BJP, but against Hindu society.

Speaking to reporters, Sarma said, “The opposition and people like Akhil Gogoi are not against the BJP. They are against Hindu society and are using Zubeen Garg’s name. Zubeen Garg had no caste or religion — they are twisting facts to suit their narrative. Wasn’t he an Assamese?”

Sarma launched a sharp attack on opposition parties, alleging that they were using the late singer’s name to target a specific community.

“They are running a campaign in Assam against the Hindu community using Zubeen’s name, led by the Congress and its allies,” he claimed.

Questioning the opposition’s narrative, the chief minister asked why they were denying Garg’s identity. “They claim Zubeen had no caste, but wasn’t he Assamese? They say Zubeen had no religion. Why? Wasn’t he Hindu?” he said.

Expressing confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects, Sarma dismissed suggestions that the controversy could hurt the party politically.

He said voters would support the BJP in the 2026 Assembly polls based on his government’s handling of the Zubeen Garg case.

“We will submit the charge sheet and ensure justice for Zubeen Garg. I will keep Zubeen Garg’s name 1,000 km away from politics. I am not seeking votes in his name,” Sarma stated.
