Guwahati, Feb 14: Gearing up for the upcoming MP election, Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah announced that the Assam unit of the Congress party has finalised candidates for five constituencies in the state for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to reporters, Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah said, “We received over 70 applications for the 14 constituencies. Our screening committee has identified one candidate for each of the five constituencies.”
“The remaining nine have two contenders each. Some of these may be allocated to our UOFA partners,” Borah added.
While the Congress has finalized candidates for five of the 14 seats, it is expected to allocate a few of the remaining nine seats to the parties in the United Opposition Forum Assam (UOFA).
Borah informed that the final decision regarding candidates in the remaining nine constituencies in the state would be made by February 20.
