Shillong, April 3: A POSCO court has sentenced a 58-year-old doctor in Meghalaya to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor in his clinic. The sentencing relates to a case against the doctor in July 2020, in Mairang in Eastern West Khasi Hills district.
The FIR, filed on July 27, 2020, stated that Doctor Ayam Sunil Khuman (58) of langsitehrim, Pyndengumiong Village (Permanent Address: Village Khurai, Imphal East District) who had a Clinic at Pyndengumiong Village in Mairang in Eastern West Khasi Hills had committed sexual assault on a minor victim.
A case was registered with Mairang Police Station. During the course of investigation, the accused person was arrested and sent to Judicial custody.
On completion of trial, the Court of M Kumar, Special Judge (POCSO), West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin has convicted the Dr Ayam Sunil Khuman and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 20 years with a fine of Rs 1,25,000 under section 6 POCSO ACT and 5 years Simple Imprisonment with fine of Rs 25,000 under section 10 of POCSO Act. In default of fine, the convict will undergo further simple imprisonment of another 6 months.
In a separate case, the Court convicted and sentenced Buksar Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi (37) of Dombahkseh village, Eastern West Khasi Hills, to undergo imprisonment for 20 years with a fine of Rs 15000 and in default of fine, the convict will undergo further simple imprisonment of another 6 months – for committing sexual assault on a minor victim on January 4, 2023.
In another case, the Court also convicted and sentenced Phrangsngi Ryntathiang (27) of Dongkiingding village to three years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 and in default of fine, the convict will undergo further simple imprisonment of another six months, for sexually assaulting a minor victim on July 4, 2023.
