Guwahati, Feb 10: Assam on Tuesday published its final electoral roll following a Special Revision (SR) exercise, leading to the deletion of 2.43 lakh names from the draft voter list.
According to official data from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam, the state now has a total of 2,49,58,139 registered voters, reflecting near-perfect gender parity. The electorate includes 1,24,82,213 male voters, 1,24,75,583 female voters, and 343 voters in the third gender category.
The Special Revision process in Assam was carried out through an extensive door-to-door verification drive, rather than relying on form submissions or document uploads. Officials said this approach was aimed at ensuring a cleaner and more accurate voter database ahead of the crucial polls.
To conduct the exercise, 29,656 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were deployed across the state, covering both urban and remote rural areas.
The latest deletions add to the large-scale clean-up already undertaken during the SR exercise. Earlier, over 10.56 lakh names had been removed from the electoral rolls during the revision process. With the publication of the final list, the total number of deletions now stands at around 13 lakh voters.
The statewide house-to-house verification was conducted between November 22 and December 20, 2025. Based on this exercise, the draft electoral roll was published on December 27, 2025, placing Assam’s electorate at around 2.52 crore voters at the time.
Subsequent scrutiny, claims, objections, and verification led to the final trimming of the rolls.
Election officials maintain that the deletions were carried out strictly as per established norms and were based on factors such as death, permanent migration, duplication, and ineligibility.
The publication of the final voter list marks a critical step in election preparedness, as political parties intensify campaign activities across the state. With the rolls now finalised, the focus is expected to shift to candidate announcements, polling logistics, and voter outreach.
The Election Commission has repeatedly emphasised that the objective of the Special Revision was not exclusion, but electoral integrity — ensuring that every eligible citizen is included and every ineligible entry removed.
