Assam: Four Bangladeshi nationals apprehended, pushed back

Guwahati, Sept 23: Four Bangladeshi nationals were successfully pushed back to Bangladesh after they were apprehended by the security forces in Assam.

Taking to micro blogging site X, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “In yet another successful push back operation of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators, @assampolice managed to apprehend and send back to Bangladesh the following individuals through the Karimganj border 1. Sohil Hawladar 2. Shah Alam 3. Sourab Hawladar 4. Md Kawsar Good job Team.”

Sarma said that the detection of illegal immigrants entering Assam through its international borders has long been a critical responsibility of the Assam Police Border Organization.

Since January this year till date, 54 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh have been detected. These include: 48 in Karimganj district, 4 in Bongaigaon district, and one each in Haflong GRP and Dhubri district. Of these, 45 individuals were successfully pushed back into their country of origin, while nine were arrested in Karimganj.

The government has asked the police to conduct an enumeration of suspected illegal immigrants, including individuals involved in specific vocations.
