Assam: Heroin worth Rs 18 crore seized, 6 drug peddlers arrested

Guwahati, Sept 12: Assam police seized around 2.2 kg of suspected heroin after a vehicle was intercepted at Saraighat on Kamrup side on Tuesday.

According to sources, a Thar bearing registration no. AS01FM7800 was carrying narcotics from Churachandpur in Manipur to lower Assam district. Police recovered 170 packets of soap cases where heroin weighing 2.2 kg was kept.

According to police, the estimated market value of the seized drugs is worth Rs 18 crore.

Three Manipur based drug peddlers were apprehended and subsequently another three Assam based peddlers, who were supposed to receive the consignment, were also apprehended from Sachika hotel at Amingaon.

The apprehended drug peddlers have been identified as Khalilur Rahman, Inamul Ali, Abdul Ali, Haopur Singson, Gogou Haokip and Samingon Doungle.

“After getting information, we intercepted the vehicle and a search was conducted at the hidden compartments built in the Thar yielded 170 pkts/soap cases of heroin weighing 2 kg 200 gms without cover were recovered,” said a police official.

It was a joint STF and Kamrup Police operation carried out under the supervision of DIG STF Parthasarathi Mahanta.
