Guwahati, Sept 1: A day after demolition of a Madrassa in Assaam’s Bongaigaon district, one of the main opposition party in Assam – AIUDF – and its supremo Maulana Badaruddin Ajmal has threatened to drag to government to court as he visited the Madrassa on Thursday.

“AIUDF might approach SC over Madrassa demolition. Arrest them if they are jehadis, give them capital punishment but why demolish. We will meet Assam CM. We will challenge this. If required, we will go to SC,” Ajmal said.

However, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said there is no with-hunting in the action on Madrassas. “Our only intention is to see that Madrassas are not used for jehadi works. We got specific input, under the guise of Madrassa, the institution is used for other intentions,” Sarma told reporter on Thursday.

The Bongaigaon district administration has imposed section 144 of CrPC in the district from Thursday.
