Shillong, Mar 14: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Monday urged the State Government to review the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Assam to resolve 6 of the 12 areas of difference.
A meeting was held on Monday where the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the KHADC Titos Chyne called upon the traditional heads of the Himas- Hima Mylliem, Jirang, Nongspung, Jyrngam and Hima Nonglang to discuss the issue.
“Considering the statement made by honourable CM on the floor of the House, there are some sections which these Himas do not agree upon and they have submitted the representation to the office urging the State Government to reconsider some points regarding the inclusion of some villages in the respective Hima with Assam,” Titos told the media after the meeting.
“We have reached to a conclusion that the Council will write and urge the government to review this MoU and to review it, to consider some points raised by the Himas,” added Chyne.
As the CEM, Chyne said he will once again apprise the Government so that a mutual understanding and a mutual agreement between the traditional heads of the Himas, the Council and the State Government can be considered.
