Shillong, Mar 14: The CEM of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Titos Chyne has condemned the vandalism by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Hima Sohiong at the office of KHADC on Friday last (March 11, 2022).
The JAC of Hima Sohiong had staged a protest in the office premises of the KHADC on Friday demanding the removal of the Lyngdoh of Hima Sohiong, Bashemphang Thabah. The JAC had demanded to meet the KHADC CEM Titos Chyne or the EM Elaka Jambor War, on failing which they vandalised the office entrance gate of KHADC’s Executive Committee building.
Terming it as a ‘barbaric act’, CEM said that the Khasi people are known for their ‘Jingtip Briew tip Blei’, “we do not act as barbarians, we are people of culture”.
“The KHADC is the only institution that protect the interest of the Khasi people, we should treat this office with respect,” added Chyne.
CEM stressed that there are other ways and means to express the concern and to express the dissatisfaction.
On being asked if any action will be taken against the JAC, CEM said the office has prepared all the necessary actions but the matter is under consideration.
