Assam Police aims to fill all vacant posts, conducts passing out parade of its biggest ever contingent of new recruits

Guwahati, April 6: In all a total of 1,715 newly-recruited unarmed constables of the Assam Police, including 535 women, passed out of the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy on Thursday, making it the largest batch in the state’s history.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accompanied by Director-General of Police (DGP) GP Singh took the salute from the new recruits at the passing out parade at the academy’s campus in Dergaon.

“We have inducted new personnel in police force. Today, we have witnessed the passing parade of first batch. Next month, we will recruit another 6000 in police force; we will soon have zero vacancy. We are working for technological upgradation. We are working for the upliftment of the skills along with new age skills,” said CM Sarma.

Assam DGP GP Singh said, “Today is a historic day for Assam police. A total of 1750 unarmed police constable today passed out from the academy. During the last two years under Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, 14,315 police personnel were recruited in Assam police. After that we have 4500 recruitment in Assam police and the process will start soon. We’ll have zero vaccancy in Assam police after the completion of the recruitment. The Assam police academy will be renamed as Lachit Barphukan police academy.”
