Guwahati, March 28: A student of the prestigious Goalpara Sainik School in Assam was allegedly physically assaulted by a senior student in the name of ragging on Monday. The incident has led to a police case being registered against the accused.
The victim’s parents have also lodged a complaint at the office of the Assam Director General of Police (DGP). A case has been registered at the Mornai police station under section 325/341/34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under section 23 of the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act.
Assam DGP GP Singh has directed the Goalpara Superintendent of Police (SP) to take immediate action against the accused.
This incident is not isolated, and several similar cases of ragging have been reported in various parts of Assam in recent times.
A retired school teacher has called for strict action against such cases, saying that the school or institution should take necessary measures to prevent such incidents. In a similar incident last year, a junior student of Dibrugarh University had jumped from the hostel building in fear of ragging and had sustained severe injuries.
