Assam Rifles foils smuggling of contraband items worth Rs 67.14 lakhs

Guwahati, July 4: The Shangshak Battalion of Assam Rifles on Monday foiled the smuggling of contraband items worth Rs 67.14 lakhs in Ukhrul District, Manipur.

Also, in another joint operation, the Radhanagar Battalion of Assam Rifles with Jirighat Police Station launched an operation and seized a substantial quantity of heroin with an estimate value of Rs. 1.1 crore.

The operation was conducted in the Lalpani area, under Jirighat Police Station in Cachar District, Assam.

One person was apprehended along with the confiscated contraband, later he was handed over to the Jirighat Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.

On July 1, in a separate operation around 150 bags of illegal Areca nuts was seized in the Melbuk area of Zokhawthar, along with 33 grams of heroin worth Rs. 1.07 crore. The recoveries were made in an operation launched by the Customs Department, Zokhawthar, based on specific intelligence inputs.
