Guwahati, March 20: After four ‘Waris Punjab De’ group and pro-Khalistan members were brought to the Central Jail in Dibrugarh, Assam Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Prashanta Kumar Bhuyan on Monday rushed to Dibrugarh to hold high level meeting on security issues.

He also took stock of the security measures of the Dibrugarh Central Jail and directed the jail authorities to beef up security in and outside the prison premises.

The four accused who were arrested in Punjab were brought to the north eastern state by Punjab Police on March 19 and lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail.

The four detainees – Daljeet Kalsi, Basant Singh, Gurmeet Singh Bhukhanwala and Bhagwant Singh alias Pradhan Mantri Bajeke, who were charged under the National Security Act (NSA) are currently lodged at the Dibrugarh Central Jail.

Seven more members of the pro-Khalistan outfit “Waris Punjab De” and close aides of Amritpal Singh are likely to be flown to Dibrugarh in Assam in the next 24 hours.

Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu on Monday said, “We have information that seven more members of Waris Punjab De will be flown to Dibrugarh either today or tomorrow. Already four members of the outfit have been brought to Dibrugarh and they are currently lodged at the Dibrugarh Central Jail. We have beefed up security inside and outside the jail. Assam police personnel and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) have been deployed for security.”

Sources said that Harjeet Singh, the uncle of “Waris Punjab De” chief Amritpal Singh, will be flown to Dibrugarh along with other members of the outfit.
