Assam: Three ABT linked Al Qaida members arrested in Dhubri

Guwahati, April 25: The Assam police arrested three members of Al-Qaida who were linked to Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) in Dhubri district of Assam on Tuesday. The individuals were identified as Md. Safiqul Islam, Md. Mojahidul Mandol, and Md. Badshah Seikh. They were apprehended in an early morning operation conducted by Dhubri Police.

ABT has been linked to Al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), and all its manifestations have been designated as terrorist organizations as per the First Schedule of UAPA 1967.

“In an early morning operation, @Dhubri_Police arrested 1. Md. Safiqul Islam2. Md.Mojahidul Mandol3. Md. Badshah Seikh. They are a part of an Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) module in Dhubri. The ABT is linked to Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Al-Qaida/Al-Qaida in Indian Sub-continent (AQIS) and all its manifestations are designated as Terrorist Organisations as per the First Schedule of UAPA 1967,” Assam DGP GP Singh tweeted.

On Monday, two Popular Front of India (PFI), was arrested from Assam’s Dhubri district.

The duo has been identified as Saiful Islam of Dhubri and Shafiqul Islam of Gauripur.

According to police, they were absconding since September last year. The duo was teaching in a madrasa named Al-Jamiatul Asia Lil Banat Panbari of Dhubri.

Meanwhile, Assam police have started a massive crackdown against PFI members in the state.

“So far many PFI leaders were arrested from different places of the state and they were lodged in jails. We will continue the operation against the radical outfit,” police official stated.
