Guwahati, Sept 19: In a gut-wrenching incident from Assam Morigaon, a 25-year-old woman who had given birth just a month back was allegedly raped and murdered by unidentified miscreants on Monday night.

According to report, the woman was allegedly raped and murdered when she was alone at her home with her baby. The incident took place at Pasatia area in Morigaon district of Assam late on Monday night.

“The miscreants barged into the house on Monday night when her husband was not at home and raped her. After that she was strangulated to death by the miscreants,” said a police source.

According to the deceased’s husband, his wife had mentioned about some individuals roaming around the area at night.

“We have launched an investigation. We have collected samples from the crime spot and sent the body for post mortem. Right now, can’t say anything because the investigation is at preliminary stage,” said a police official.

The locals in the area have demanded a speedy investigation into the crime and arrest of the culprits at the earliest.

“We condemn the incident and demand justice for the victim’s family. The area has become a hub of criminal activities. We demand police to launch a crackdown against anti-social elements,” said a local resident.
