Guwahati, Dec 6: Assam Black Tea—cultivated in the fertile plains of the Brahmaputra Valley—is celebrated worldwide for its bold malty flavour, bright liquor, and craftsmanship. Recognised with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2007, it embodies the region’s unique terroir, heritage, and generations of skilled tea workers.
Beyond its cultural and economic significance, Assam Black Tea is also valued for its potential health benefits, making every cup both comforting and wholesome.

Adding to its global prominence, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared on social media that Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Assam Tea to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Calling it “a moment of great pride for Assam,” the Chief Minister said the gesture carried with it “the rich aroma, heritage, and hard work of our Cha Shramiks.”
He added that “from our gardens to global diplomacy, Assam’s flavour is now part of world conversations.”
