Guwahati, June 19: A 24-year-old Bangladeshi woman was arrested at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) in Guwahati on the night of June 16 for allegedly living and working illegally in India using forged identity documents.
According to police sources, the woman arrived in Guwahati from Bengaluru on an Air India flight at around 7:45 pm.

She had reportedly travelled to Assam to meet her boyfriend, who had previously worked with her in Bengaluru. “She was detained after security personnel noticed suspicious movements at the airport. During questioning, discrepancies emerged in her statements, prompting further verification,” a senior police official said. During interrogation, the woman allegedly admitted that she was a citizen of Bangladesh.
Following the preliminary inquiry, she was handed over to the Border Branch of Assam Police at Azara Police Station at around 10 pm for further investigation. Investigators later found that she had allegedly entered India illegally through the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura in 2024. Police said she crossed the border with the assistance of a broker based in Agartala before travelling by train to Bengaluru via Guwahati.
She had reportedly been employed with a private company in Bengaluru. Further investigation revealed that she had been using a fake Aadhaar card issued in the name of “Pooja Das.” The forged document carried an address in South Dinajpur district of West Bengal and was allegedly used to facilitate her stay, travel and employment in different parts of India.
Police are continuing their investigation to trace the network involved in arranging the forged documents and facilitating her illegal entry into the country.
