Agartala, April 26: The BJP’s Tripura unit on Sunday escalated its attack over an alleged job recruitment scam in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), submitting a formal complaint to the Governor and announcing a boycott of the council’s swearing-in ceremony by its elected MDCs.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s state office in Agartala, senior BJP leaders—including state Vice-President Bimal Kanti Chakma, General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, former MP Rebati Tripura, and General Secretary Bhumikananda Reang—levelled serious allegations of irregularities in recent appointments.
Former MP Rebati Tripura claimed that nearly 120 appointments were made “illegally” during the election period, bypassing mandatory recruitment procedures such as public advertisements and due selection norms. She alleged that the process lacked transparency and deprived many eligible candidates of opportunities.
“The government had promised clean and transparent governance, but what we are witnessing is blatant violation of rules,” she said, adding that while some individuals may have benefited, many deserving aspirants were left out.
Tripura further alleged that the appointments were made without approval from the Finance Department and accused authorities of favouritism, nepotism, and corruption. A BJP delegation met the Governor earlier in the day, urging immediate intervention and strict action against those responsible.
In a significant political move, Tripura announced that four BJP Members of District Council (MDCs) would boycott the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for Monday. She alleged that BJP representatives had been subjected to political violence due to their affiliation with the party.
The developments are likely to intensify political tensions in the state, with the recruitment controversy emerging as a fresh flashpoint between the ruling establishment and the opposition.
