“We zeroed in on the 22 year old man after our investigation revealed that the victim was last seen with him before her disappearance. He has confessed to the murder and also led our police team to the incident site where we retrieved the wooden club used by him to murder her,” South Garo Hills SP Rituraj Ravi told HubNews over phone from Baghmara.

The accused, Bimstar R Marak (22) alias Bimbim, was arrested late Monday night from his house in Dangsugre village.

Both, the girl and the accused belonged to the same village and knew each other.

The murdered victim regularly used the Dangsugre jungle road as a shortcut to go from her village to the school at Dalu.

According to police, the criminal minded Bimstar had consumed alcohol when he met the girl on that 1st December day.

He said there was a fight with the victim and in anger he attacked her with the wooden stick and killed her. He has denied rape.

Police currently are awaiting the post mortem report and the accused is now in police custody.
