Must read

SHILLONG, JAN 16: A BSF officer was summoned by the Inspector General (IG) and directed to apologize after he allegedly assaulted a journalist, Raju Das of the Assam Tribune, at the BSF Umpling camp on Thursday.

The incident occurred when Das and other journalists were gathering information about a commotion inside the campus related to the termination of a BSF jawan’s service.

The officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly hit Das with his mobile phone and attempted to grab a gun from another jawan, sparking fears for the journalist’s safety.

Shillong Press Club (SPC) president Deimaia Siangshai has taken up the matter with the BSF IG and Public Relations Officer (PRO), and the IG has directed the officer to apologize for his actions.

Working journalists in Shillong have strongly condemned the incident emphasizing the need for journalists to be able to work without fear of intimidation or violence.
