Guwahati, Sept 12: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday unveiled the BJP’s manifesto for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, promising 100% implementation of the Bodo peace accord, new infrastructure projects, and higher education institutions in the region. The polls are scheduled for September 22.
“We will take a series of measures to empower our mothers and sisters of BTC,” Sarma told reporters while outlining the party’s commitments.
The CM also launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing it of defaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother. “The people of Bihar will teach them a lesson. Mother is mother, and those who want to defame her will not succeed,” Sarma said.
Seen as a crucial political test ahead of next year’s Assembly elections, the BTC polls will decide the future of the 40-member autonomous council functioning under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
