SHILLONG, DEC 19: The state Cabinet on Friday approved the acquisition of a government‑owned parcel of land in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, to establish a Meghalaya House.
The move is aimed at providing essential accommodation and support services for the state’s students and residents travelling to the National Capital Region, especially with the upcoming development of the Jewar International Airport.
Addressing media persons after chairing the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “The cabinet has approved the purchase of land in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, for Meghalaya House. With the Jewar airport coming up, it will become a very important centre. The government felt the need to expand and ensure we have infrastructure for our students and citizens who travel to the national capital and the NCR region. It is important to have a set‑up in that area.”
He added that the transaction is a government‑to‑government deal, involving the acquisition of approximately 8,000 sq m of land at a cost of ₹32 crore, a rate set by the Uttar Pradesh government.
“The land is being purchased from the government itself at a government‑determined rate of ₹32 crore for about 8,000 sq m,” Sangma said.
The proposed Meghalaya House will serve as a hub for official and student accommodation, facilitating easier access to educational institutions, government offices, and the forthcoming airport.
The project is expected to strengthen the state’s presence in the NCR and enhance services for Meghalaya’s diaspora in the region.
