Tura, Jan 14: A solemn candlelight vigil was held on Wednesday honouring the life and memory of the late matgrik Dilseng M Sangma at the Tura super market.

Organised by the Durama Imbama Norimbe Dikkimbi A•chik Ma•giparang (DINDAM), the service was also attended by religious leader and representatives of various social groups including GSMC, AIGU, NGCO, NTDF, TSCF, GGU, AAYF and ACHIK.

During the gathering, participants, community leaders and well-wishers spoke of his courage, observed moments of silence, offered prayers, lit candles to honor his death, and renewed calls from local organizations for justice and peace in the district. Shop owners at the Tura Super Market also temporarily closed their shops and joined in on the service paying their respects to the deceased.

The somber gathering served as a communal tribute to the local activist, Late Dilseng M Sangma known for his work with the social organization ACHIK (A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima), following his tragic death last week in an altercation with a mob in Rajabala area (Goalgaon village).

The tragic incident occurred on January 9, 2026, where Dilseng and fellow activists were returning from an inspection of an alleged illegal stone quarry in the Rajabala area (Goalgaon village) of West Garo Hills, and were intercepted and reportedly assaulted by a mob.

Dilseng sustained severe injuries during the attack and was rushed for medical care but succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Tura Civil Hospital.
