Ampati, Aug 3: As a part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, a one-day district level sensitization programme to combat the menace of child trafficking in bordering districts of India was organised at DRDA Conference Hall, Ampati on Wednesday.
Jointly organized by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights ( NCPCR), State Commissioner for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) and District Administration of South West Garo Hills, the programme chaired by SK Marak, Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, was participated by EACs, Superintendent of Police, Siddharth Kr. Ambedkar, along with ASP and DSPs and also representatives from Anti Human Trafficking Units, Juvenile Justice Board, Child Welfare Committee, Special Juvenile Police Units, Child Welfare Police Officer, Social Welfare Officer, District Child Protection Officer and also other Police Officers of Police Stations across the district.
Sensitizing the key stakeholders on basic indicators to identify children at risk, vulnerable children and prevention for combating child trafficking in bordering districts of India being the main objective of the programme, an open house discussion took place with lively participation from stakeholders, who shared their experiences and also exchanged ideas on improving techniques related to handling such cases.
An Expert Resource Person of NCPCR, Rahul Pawa, made a presentation on the subject matter providing insights into Child Rights, Constitutional Rights, Legal Mechanisms, key mandate of NCPCR, other child related statutes, comprehensive measures to combat the menace of human trafficking, vulnerability factor and proposed strategy to prevent child trafficking in this country.
Expressing happiness over a good number of participation mainly from police personnel, Pawa shared on the need to provide the safe and secure environment for children as they are the future of this country and will contribute to nation building as adults.
