Guwahati, Feb 16: The Congress high command has rejected senior leader Bhupen Borah’s resignation following high-level discussions, signalling a temporary truce within the Assam unit ahead of crucial political developments.
Congress in-charge for Assam, Bhanwar Jitendra Singh, confirmed that Borah’s resignation has not been accepted by the party leadership.

“I thank Bhupen Borah for taking back his resignation. He is an important member of the Congress family. He had sent his resignation to our party’s national president. Sometimes there are differences of opinion within the Congress family,” Singh said.
He added that the Congress president, Mallikarjun Kharge, did not accept the resignation after holding detailed deliberations with senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi.
“The party leadership held a long discussion with him. We have resolved this through discussions. He has been in the Congress for the last 30 years,” Singh stated.
The development comes amid heightened political activity in Assam, with the Congress attempting to project unity and stability within its ranks. Borah’s brief resignation had sparked speculation of internal discord within the state unit.
With the high command stepping in to contain the situation, the party appears keen to avoid public fissures at a politically sensitive time.
