GHADC polls: Congress wins 12, NPP 11

Tura, April 15: The Congress party has won 12 seats in the GHADC election, while NPP won 11 seats.

Out of 29 seats, Congress managed to pull 12 seats with a win in – Kharkutta, Rongrong, Kharkutta, Samandagre, Williamnagar, Boldamgre, Betasing, Amongpara, Dengnakpara, Shyamnagar, Batabari and Balachanda.

NPP won Bolsong, Darugre, Nogorpara, Siju, Gasuapara, Silkigre, Babelapara, Naguapara, Raksamgre, Jengjal and Asanang.

BJP won the prestigious seat of Tura and Barengapara.

BJP candidate Bernard Marak, who won Tura seat defeating NPP’s Semford B Sangma said, “We will discuss with the high command for the formation of an alliance. We have not decided yet”.

GNC won Rongrikimgre in South Garo Hills.

Three seats were won by independent candidates.

Independent candidate Albinstone Marak, who defeated NPP’s Dipul Marak, the outgoing CEM of GHADC said, “We will partner with NPP”.

The United Democratic Party (UDP) drew a blank.

In the five constituencies of South Garo Hills, NPP won 3 seats, while GNC 1 and one independent candidate. In Siju constituency, NPP candidate Albinush R Marak secured 5151 votes and won with a margin of 1615 votes defeating independent candidate Dr Rajesh Marak, who secured 3536 votes.

In Wagesik constituency, Independent candidate Nathawal S Marak secured 4044 votes and won with a margin of 778 votes defeating Bartholomew D Shira of NPP, who secured 3266 votes. In Silkigre constituency, NPP candidate Sengbath R Marak secured 4289 votes and won with a margin of 146 votes defeating Willy D Shira of Congress, who secured 4143 votes.

In Rongrikimgre constituency, GNC candidate Nikman Ch Marak secured 4151 votes and won with a margin of 1068 votes defeating Wenison Ch Marak of NPP, who secured 3083 votes. In Gasuapara constituency, NPP’s Sengchim N. Sangma secured 5657 votes and won with a margin of 1371 votes defeating Devier M Sangma of UDP, who secured 4286 votes.

In West Garo Hills, NPP and Congress won 5 seats each, while BJP 2 seats, and one independent. In Barengapara constituency, BJP’s Pramod Koch secured 3170 votes and won with a margin of 487 votes defeating Sarbha Marak of Congress, who secured 2683 votes. In Babelapara constituency, NPP’s Rakesh A. Sangma secured 6376 votes and won with a margin of 939 votes defeating sitting MLA and NCP candidate Saleng A. Sangma, who secured 5437 votes.

In Amongpara constituency, Congress candidate Nehru D Sangma secured 5646 votes and won with a margin of 1256 votes defeating independent candidate Balsrang Arengh, who secured 4390 votes.

In Tura constituency, BJP candidate Bernard Marak secured 8942 votes and won with a margin of 545 votes defeating NPP’s Semford B Sangma, who secured 8397 votes. In Dengnakpara constituency, Congress candidate Sadhiarani Sangma secured 8654 votes and won with a margin of 2431 votes defeating Sanjib R Sangma of NPP, who secured 6223 votes.

Sadhiarani is the lone women candidate who won the GHADC election.

In Boldamgre constituency, Congress candidate Stevie Marak secured 6320 votes and won with a margin of 1003 votes defeating NPP’s Thebarson Arengh, who secured 5317 votes.

In Nogorpara constituency, NPP’s Linekar K. Sangma, cousin of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma secured 7625 votes and won with a margin of 1929 votes defeating Congress candidate Kansan Sangma, who secured 5696 votes.

In South West Garo Hills, Congress won 2 seats, NPP 1 and Independent 1 seats.

In Zikzak constituency, Independent candidate Aktar Ali secured 8363 votes and won with a margin of 1771 votes defeating BJP’s Bhupendra Hajon, who secured 6592 votes.

In Betasing constituency, Congress candidate Sanjay Koch secured 5510 votes and won with a margin of 1841 votes defeating Bakul Ch Hajong of BJP, who secured 3669 votes.

In Rochonpara constituency, independent candidate Arbinstone B. Marak secured 6871 votes and won with a margin of 1881 votes defeating NPP’s Dipul Marak, the outgoing CEM of GHADC, who secured 4990 votes.

In Asanang constituency, NPP candidate Anseng A Sangma, brother-in-law of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, and Power Minister James K. Sangma secured 6335 votes and won with a margin of 589 votes defeating Adamkid Sangma of Congress, who secured 5746 votes.

In Balachanda constituency, Congress candidate and son of congress leader (L) Clement Marak, Aggasi R Marak secured 7125 votes and won with a margin of 1542 votes defeating NPP candidate Enamul Haque, who secured 5583 votes.

In Batabari constituency, Congress candidate Ashahel D Shira, former Congress MLA secured 6641 votes and won with a margin of 868 defeating Independent candidate Ruth A Sangma, daughter of NPP MLA Ferlin A Sangma.

In Shyamnagar constituency, Congress candidate Habibur Zaman secured 13412 votes and won with a margin of 1837 votes defeating NPP candidate Tarif Sarkar, who secured 11575 votes. Tarif is former Minister Manirul Islam Sarkar’s son and nephew of NPP MLA Esmatur Mominin.

In Raksamgre constituency, NPP candidate and MLA Benedic R Marak secured 8327 votes and won with a margin 2656 votes defeating Joyson R Marak of Congress, who secured 5671 votes.

In Nauguapara constituency, NPP candidate Dhormonath Sangma secured 6462 votes and won with a margin of 249 votes defeating Independent candidate Rahinath Barchung, who secured 6213 votes.

In Jengjal constituency, NPP candidate Grahambell A Marak secured 6531 votes and won with a margin of 84 votes defeating Levastone T Sangma of Congress, who secured 6447 votes.

In Rongrong constituency, Congress candidate Rinaldo K Sangma secured 13420 votes and won with a margin of 4809 votes defeating NPP candidate Sukharam K Sangma, who secured 8611 votes.

In Damas constituency, Congress candidate Pardinand D Shira secured 11023 votes and won with a margin of 4700 votes defeating Dolly K Sangma of NPP, who secured 6323 votes.

In Kharkutta constituency, Congress candidate Cherak W Momin secured 14204 votes and won with a margin of 3333 votes defeating NPP candidate Edibirth D Shira, who secured 10871 votes.

In Samandagre constituency, Congress candidate Lahitson M Sangma secured 10240 votes and won with a margin of 1726 votes defeating Brilliant R Sangma of NPP, who secured 8514 votes.

In Darugre constituency, NPP candidate Henen R Sangma secured 9039 votes and won with a margin of 4043 votes defeating Congress candidate Rapuish CH Sangma, who secured 4996 votes.

In Williamnagar constituency, Congress candidate Alphonsush secured 8261 votes and won with a margin of 1100 votes defeating Denang T Sangma of NPP, who secured 7161 votes.
