Arbinstone Marak – the giant slayer

Tura, April 15: Independent candidate Arbinstone Marak, who won the Rochonpara constituency in West Garo Hills with a margin of 1881 votes emerged as the giant slayer.

Marak, who debuted the GHADC election taking on NPP’s outgoing CEM Dipul Marak secured 6871 votes, while his rival secured 4990 votes.

Arbinstone Marak is said to be close to NPP chief and Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. He was denied party ticket, however on winning the election, he said, “My allegiance is with NPP and I will support NPP in the formation of the new executive committee.”

He also thanked the electorates of his constituencies for believing in his leadership.

Arbinstone has been a hardcore NPP worker and has been working with Conrad K. Sangma for over 15 years. Arbinstone was one of the main party worker of Conrad K. Sangma, when he contested the MLA election from Selsella constituency in the by-election in 2004, general election in 2008 and general election in 2013.
