COVID-19 update: Active cases in Meghalaya fall below 5000 mark

Shillong, June 13: The measures to curb and contain the spread of novel corona virus in Meghalaya seem to be having an impact as State’s tally of active cases has fallen below the 5000 mark.

According to a bulletin by the Health Department on Sunday, Meghalaya’s currently has 4,623 actives cases after 547 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours.

At the same time, 305 new cases were detected, which comes as a respite after adding over 500 cases for three days in a row. 603 cases were detected on June 10, 514 on June 11, and 501 on June 12.

As for the recoveries, June 10 saw 427 recoveries, June 11 had 526 recoveries, June 12 had 610 recoveries. The maximum recoveries were in East Khasi Hills with 270 recoveries in contrast to 144 new cases.

Meanwhile, the cases are picking up in Garo Hills with the West Garo Hills reporting 48 cases on Sunday, 102 cases on Saturday, 90 on Friday, and 63 on Thursday.

West Jaintia Hills on the other hand reported 19 new cases on Sunday, 60 on Saturday, 71 on Friday and 74 on Thursday.

As for East Khasi Hills that has the maximum cases, after detected 226 cases on Thursday, its daily caseload is constantly decreasing for three consecutive days. It detected 183 new cases on Friday, 158 on Saturday and 144 on Sunday.

At the same time, the state has registered a total of 733 deaths to COVID-19, after 6 more lives were lost to the deadly virus.
