Ampati, Nov 24: The Department of Education, Captain Williamson Sangma State University (CWSSU), Tura Campus, organized two major academic events at its Balalgre campus in South West Garo Hills from November 11–14, 2025.
On November 11, the Department marked National Education Day with a one-day symposium on “Reimagining Education in India: Pathways for the Future” , graced by Tony T. C. Marak (IFS, Retd.) as the chief guest, while Rev. Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, Principal, Don Bosco College, Tura, delivered the keynote address on AI and human agency in education.
The programme was held in the presence of University Registrar Ambrose Ch. Marak and Deputy Registrar Singje Ch. Marak.
Four distinguished resource persons—Prof. Sherwin May Sungoh, Prof. Brinda Bazely Kharbirymbai, Dr. Challang R. Marak, and Dr. Donberd Sangma—presented on themes related to teacher education, inclusion, artificial intelligence, and equity, highlighting key priorities of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Student literary competitions were also conducted as part of the celebration.
The symposium was coordinated by Deiborme Lyngdoh.
On November 13–14, the Department conducted a two-day workshop on Application of Basic Statistics in Research and Education, which drew more than 100 postgraduate students from various social science disciplines.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Vasanthi Vijayakumar, and featured technical sessions led by Prof. Nikme S. C. Momin (NEHU Tura), Prof. S. C. Subudhi (NEHU Tura), Prof. Brinda B. Kharbirymbai (NEHU Shillong) and Dr. Dikki N. Marak (NLU Shillong).
The sessions emphasized multidisciplinary learning, hands-on practice, and research-oriented skill development in alignment with the NEP 2020 vision of strengthening analytical and research competencies among learners.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Kanika Das.
Both programmes underscored the University’s dedication to academic excellence, innovation, and preparing future-ready educators and researchers.
