Kohima, June 16: The Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) has issued a 20-day ultimatum to the Nagaland Government, demanding immediate action on the long-pending Maova village dispute and warning of agitation if authorities fail to respond.
In a representation submitted to the Chief Secretary, the organisation backed the earlier appeal of the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) and accused the government of continued inaction despite repeated representations over the issue.
The dispute revolves around allegations that Maova village has refused to recognise CPO as the traditional landowner and has failed to pay customary land tax despite previous administrative directives. CYO cited orders issued by the then ADC Peren in 1981 and the then DC Dimapur in 2010 directing Maova village to pay traditional tax to Tsüüma village, alleging that these directives have been repeatedly ignored.

Calling the situation “unacceptable,” the organisation demanded derecognition of Maova village, removal of Head GB Seiboi Changsang, suspension of government schemes and developmental assistance to the village, and administrative intervention until the matter is resolved. It also questioned the continuation of the hereditary GB system in the village and sought action against individuals allegedly violating Angami customary laws.
CYO warned that failure to take concrete steps within 20 days would deepen public resentment and force the organisation to intensify its agitation. The ultimatum adds fresh pressure on the state government as the decades-old Maova dispute once again moves to the forefront of public attention.
