DC prohibit entry of heavy vehicle in Tura, goods vehicle entry allowed from 9 pm to 6 am

Tura, Apr 29: In view of the recent accidents that took place in Tura, the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills has come up with an order imposing restriction of heavy vehicles within the Tura Municipal Area.

The order said that goods carriage vehicles with more than 9 MT carrying capacity are strictly prohibited from entering the Tura Municipal Area at all times, except on permission from District administration.

It also said that the goods carriage vehicles carrying 2.5 MT to 9 MT (for instance – four and Six Tyred trucks) will be restricted from 6 AM to 9 PM in the Tura Municipal area. They can ply through the Tura town area between 9 PM to 6 AM.

“Exception to this restriction will be granted for government vehicles, vehicles used for official government works, public transport vehicles such as buses, tow-trucks, breakdown vans and recovery vehicles, and vehicles granted exemption by the District Administration,” the order said.

“Government departments utilizing heavy vehicles must provide strict guidance to drivers to adhere to all traffic laws and regulations. This includes but is not limited to obeying speed limits, weight restrictions, and traffic signals. Departments are responsible for ensuring that drivers receive adequate training and are aware of their obligations to promote road safety”, it further said.

Police to setup entry gate checkpoints

Deputy Commissioner has also directed the district police to setup entry gate checkpoints at the entry points of the Tura town area for strict compliance by the Goods carriage vehicles, for coverage of the vehicles plying to and fro from Rongram, South West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.

Strict adherence to Weight and Speed Limits: All heavy vehicles operating within the boundaries of West Garo Hills District must strictly adhere to the prescribed weight and speeding limits as stipulated by the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and subsequent amendments and regulations thereof.

“All vehicles shall adhere to traffic regulations such as driving within the speed limit, wearing helmets for riders and pillion on a bike, wearing seat belts in a car, etc. as per the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988,” it stated.

Al heavy vehicles shall have reflective strip for safe demarcation of the vehicles during night time by commuters. Public transport must not be overcrowded and shall strictly follow speed limits and traffic regulations.
