Chumukedima, June 18: A decomposed body of an unidentified man was recovered from the Chate River near Seithekema ‘C’ village in Chumukedima district following a challenging search operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Wednesday evening.
Officials said the SDRF was alerted about the body at around 5 pm and immediately launched a retrieval operation.
However, rescue efforts were hampered by poor underwater visibility caused by accumulated mud and silt in the river.
After nearly two-and-a-half hours of search, personnel successfully recovered the body at around 7:30 pm.

The deceased was later shifted to the district hospital morgue by police for post-mortem examination and identification. Authorities said the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, making immediate identification difficult.
Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
Authorities have appealed to the public to report any information regarding missing persons that could assist in identifying the deceased.
