Demand for ILP: CoMSO threatens to intensify stir

Must read

Shillong, Feb 20: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) has appealed for public support in the agitations organised to indicate “the voice of the public” demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) and other pending demands.

In a statement issued here, the secretary of CoMSO, Roy Kupar Synrem said that the CoMSO on February 18 held a meeting in Tura wherein NGO leaders from different parts of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo hills were present to discuss on the further course of action to press for their demands.

“At the meeting, the organization has decided to intensify the agitation across the state to push the implementation of the Inner Line Permit”, he said.

He said that the CoMSO will come up with various programmes on agitation through a public rally and meetings in a message to the Center that the people of the state want ILP.

“The public rallies and meetings in every part of the state will be an indication to signify the voice of the public on ILP and also to show that the demand for ILP is not a demand of the NGOs or the political parties but it is of the public”, he said.

Synrem said that later the CoMSO will announce other programmes which will be more “aggressive” for the Center and the state government to give in to their demand for ILP.

Apart from the ILP, the organization has decided to follow up on the demands to push for the incorporation of Khasi and Garo language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, to speed up the amendment to the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution and to resolve the boundary issues.
