Must read

Tura, July 9: As part of the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls, the District Election Office of West Garo Hills has launched a series of district-level training programs for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and BLO Supervisors at SMELC Building, Dakopgre, Tura.

The training sessions which began on June 3 and will continue till July 15 are being conducted Assembly Constituency-wise to ensure focused guidance and area-specific clarity.

Prior to the BLO sessions, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) were trained to effectively implement the revision process in coordination with field-level officers.

The Role of BLOs

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) form the backbone of the voter registration system. In West Garo Hills, 547 BLOs are currently engaged in verifying voter details, assisting with new registrations, and conducting door-to-door outreach. Their role is crucial in ensuring that the electoral rolls are accurate, inclusive, and updated ahead of the upcoming elections.

With the expected addition of 13–14 new polling stations in the district, a separate training program will also be organized for the BLOs deployed to these new locations to ensure smooth onboarding and area familiarization.

Most of the training sessions are being supervised by newly appointed MCS officers serving as Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), along with the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), with support from the District Election Office.

Speaking to HubNews, Nipon Hajong, MCS, ADC (Elections), said, “Booth Level Officers are the foundation of the electoral process. Their work directly impacts the integrity and inclusiveness of our voter rolls. Through this training, we aim to empower them with the right tools and knowledge to carry out their duties effectively and transparently.”

The District Election Office reiterated its commitment to free and fair elections and encouraged all BLOs to perform their responsibilities with dedication and professionalism.
