ACA stadium becomes India’s 30th test venue
Guwahati, Nov 22: Assam created history on Saturday as it hosted its maiden Test match at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Barsapara, Guwahati. It marks a significant milestone for the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), which has successfully brought international Test cricket to the state for the first time.
Excited fans flocked to the stadium from early morning to witness the historic moment. The second Test between India and South Africa has now been etched into the state’s sporting history—an occasion people of Assam will remember for years to come.

Ahead of the first ball, the atmosphere was electric as spectators celebrated what many described as a dream come true for cricket lovers in Guwahati.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to share his pride, writing:
“Proud to see ACA Stadium become India’s 30th Test venue, bringing the pinnacle of cricket to Assam. This moment will inspire countless young talents and elevate our sporting ambitions even higher. Onward to a new innings for Assam!”
His message reflects not only the sporting significance of the event but also Assam’s growing stature in national athletics and infrastructure development.
BCCI President Mithun Manhas and BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia ceremonially rang the bell to mark the start of play on the opening day. On the occasion, India’s captain Rishabh Pant and South Africa’s captain Temba Bavuma also signed a special ACA Stadium portrait to commemorate the venue’s debut as a Test host.

“I’m a big fan of cricket and today my dream has come true—to witness a Test match in Guwahati. I love Test cricket, but I never had a chance to watch one in a stadium before. This is my first opportunity,” said Rintu Baruah, a cricket enthusiast.
The inclusion of Guwahati as a Test venue further cements Assam’s position as an emerging sports hub and the achievement reflects years of dedicated efforts to upgrade cricketing infrastructure and ensure world-class facilities.
The moment is expected to bring fresh opportunities for young cricketers across the Northeast, inspiring them to aim higher and strengthening the state’s sporting ambitions.
